Overview

The Benchmark for Safety & Performance.

Australia's safest pick & carry crane.

The PC28-3G sets the standard for safety and performance in its class. Slew Safe comes standard on every unit, lifting capacity holds strong on slopes and articulated positions, and the 2.3 tonne counterweight roads with the crane so you never need a support vehicle between jobs.

Features

Powered by a low-emission Cummins Euro 6 engine and equipped with the industry-leading Slew Safe® system, the PC28-3G is designed to minimise risk and maximise efficiency on any worksite.

It's compact design, impressive roadability, and robust lifting charts allow you to move into tight spaces and take on complex lifts with confidence.

  • Lift Capacity on Any Ground

More powerful front suspension cylinders increase lifting capacity by an average of 17% when articulated or on a side slope, and by more than 40% in some positions.

You are not managing down to a reduced chart on site conditions that are anything less than flat. The crane performs where the job actually happens.

  • Roadable Counterweight

The 2.3 tonne counterweight roads with the crane as standard. No support vehicle, no second driver, no split coordination between sites.

For an owner-operator doing multiple lifts across locations in a day, that is time and cost back on every job.

  • Slew Safe as Standard

Every PC28-3G leaves the factory with Slew Safe fitted. It gives the operator real-time feedback before a load situation becomes a rollover, and it is active on every lift.

Your operators are protected on every job, not just the ones where someone happened to check.

  • Low-Emission Engine

The Cummins ISB6.7 Euro 6 engine is certified to the world's toughest emission standards, achieving near-zero emissions for a cleaner worksite.

  • ROPS-Certified Cabin

An ergonomically designed, forward-mounted cabin with expansive visibility and premium comfort features to reduce operator fatigue.

Specifications

The Numbers That Back It Up

Lifting capacity holds strong where the ground doesn't.

With a maximum lift of 28 tonnes on the lug and an average 17% capacity increase on articulated or side-slope positions, the PC28-3G performs on the jobs that push other machines to their limit. In some positions that improvement reaches over 40%.

The 75% stationary lift chart with holding brake applied is exclusive to this machine in its class, made possible by the LMI bridging switch as standard.

At 2.5 metres wide with an 18.65 metre full power boom built from Swedish high-tensile steel, it gets into the sites others can't reach and lifts what the job demands.

The 4.6 tonne single line pull winch is the largest capacity option available in this class.

Safety at the Centre of Everything

The PC28-3G is built to protect the operator, the lift, and the people on the ground.

Every safety system on this machine is there because pick and carry work carries real risk. Slew Safe, the ROPS cabin, ABS braking, and the LMI bridging switch are not optional extras. They are the standard.

  • Slew Safe Standard

Included on every PC28-3G as standard. It monitors load conditions in real time and stops the operator slewing into an unsafe zone before a situation becomes a rollover.

  • 75% Lift Chart with Holding Brake

The LMI bridging switch makes the PC28-3G the only pick and carry crane in its class able to hold a 75% stationary lift chart with the holding brake applied.

  • ROPS-Certified Cabin

The integrated ROPS safety frame, 3-point safety belts, and air suspension seating protect the operator in a rollover and across a full working day.

  • ABS Braking

Anti-lock braking is standard across all wheels, delivering consistent, controlled stopping performance on site and on the road.

  • Full Site Visibility

The forward-mounted elevated cabin, updated mirrors, extra cameras, and expansive top glass give the operator a clear view in all directions, whether driving or lifting.

  • Traction Air Tyre Management

The optional Traction Air system maintains 130PSI across all tyres from inside the cab, creating a stable lift platform without manual pressure checks between jobs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pick and carry crane, and what makes the PC28-3G different from a standard mobile crane?

A pick and carry crane lifts a load and travels with it suspended from the hook, rather than setting it down and repositioning. That makes it the right tool for jobs where the load needs to move across a site, not just be lifted and placed in one spot.

The PC28-3G is 2.5 metres wide and articulates 44 degrees either side of centre, which means it gets into sites and around obstacles that a conventional mobile crane couldn't navigate. It then carries up to 25 tonnes while moving, and lifts up to 28 tonnes on the fixed lug when stationary.

For construction, infrastructure, and industrial sites where flexibility and access are as important as raw capacity, it covers ground that other machines can't.

  • Does lifting capacity drop off on a side slope or when the crane is articulated?

No, it improves. More powerful front suspension cylinders on the PC28-3G increase lifting capacity by an average of 17% when the crane is articulated or working on a side slope, and by more than 40% in some positions.

Most pick and carry cranes run a reduced chart the moment the ground isn't flat or the crane isn't straight. On the PC28-3G, the capacity figures hold where the job actually happens, not just on a level pad.

That difference is meaningful on any site where the ground is uneven, and on most real job sites, it is.

  • What is Slew Safe and does it come standard?

Slew Safe is TRT's proprietary safety system fitted to every PC28-3G as standard, with no option to leave it off. It monitors load conditions in real time and prevents the operator from slewing into an unsafe zone before a rollover situation develops.

The critical word is before. The system doesn't wait for the crane to be in danger and then alarm. It stops the move from happening in the first place.

For fleet owners and safety managers, it means the protection isn't dependent on the operator's experience or the conditions of a particular day. It is active on every lift, every time.

  • What is the 75% stationary lift chart, and why does it matter?

The PC28-3G is the only pick and carry crane in its class able to use a 75% stationary lift chart with the holding brake applied. This is made possible by the Robway RCI8510 Dynamic LMI with its LMI bridging switch, which is standard on every unit.

Most cranes in this class are limited to a 66% stationary chart. The 75% chart means more usable capacity at the same radius, which on a lift that is close to the margin can be the difference between a crane that can do the job and one that can't.

If you are specifying for a project with demanding lift charts, that distinction is worth understanding before you commit to a machine.

  • Does the counterweight need a separate support vehicle to road between sites?

No. The 2.3 tonne counterweight roads with the crane as standard. There is no support vehicle, no second driver, and no coordination required between two vehicles moving between jobs.

For an owner-operator running multiple lifts across different locations in a day, that removes a real cost and logistical overhead from every job. The crane arrives complete and ready to work.

It is one of the details that separates a machine designed for genuine site-to-site flexibility from one that just happens to be mobile.

  • What does the engine choice mean for compliance and running costs?

The PC28-3G uses the Cummins ISB6.7 Euro 6 engine, rated at 238 kW and certified to the world's toughest emission standards. Near-zero emissions means it can operate on sites with strict environmental conditions, including inner-city construction, without triggering compliance issues.

The Cummins engine also gives owners access to the Cummins service network, which runs to 37 branches and 170 authorised dealers across the South Pacific. Routine engine servicing is not dependent on a single supplier or a specialist travelling to you.

For fleet operators, that combination of compliance clearance and accessible engine support reduces two separate categories of operational risk.

  • What warranty and service schedule applies to the PC28-3G?

The PC28-3G carries a 12-month component warranty and a 5-year structural warranty as standard. Because TRT is the manufacturer, warranty claims are handled directly with no third party in the process.

The first service falls at 100 operating hours, with scheduled services every 250 hours after that. All major servicing is carried out by authorised TIDD service agents across New Zealand and Australia, selected for their crane expertise and access to local support.

Every part used in the build is an industry-standard construction or crane machinery component, which means straightforward sourcing over the life of the machine and no proprietary dead ends.
