Manitowoc Crawler Cranes
Overview

The Benchmark for Heavy Lifting

80 to 750 tonnes. Every Manitowoc crawler, fully backed by TRT.

Manitowoc crawlers are specified on major construction, infrastructure, and energy projects across New Zealand and Australia because they deliver the weight and reach those jobs demand. The range runs from 80 to 750 tonnes. Fast assembly, advanced load management, and 24/7 Manitowoc Crane Care back every unit TRT delivers.

Features

The technology in this range exists because the jobs demand it.

FACT connection systems reduce the time and crew required for boom assembly. VPC counterweight positioning on the larger models reduces site footprint and ground preparation requirements.

On a constrained site with a demanding programme, that adds up to real time returned to the job.

  • FACT Connection System

The FACT quick-assembly system connects boom sections with a single-pin design rather than multiple-bolt connections. Assembly requires fewer steps per section, reducing the time between arriving on site and completing the first lift on every mobilisation.

  • Variable Position Counterweight (VPC)

The VPC system on the MLC300 and MLC650 automatically adjusts counterweight position to match the lifting demand, eliminating the need for carbody counterweight. The result is a dramatically reduced site footprint and lower ground bearing pressure, allowing these cranes to operate on sites that would rule out a conventional crawler.

  • Crane Control System (CCS)

The Crane Control System delivers real-time load data through dual graphic displays and ergonomic joystick controls. When the load is heavy and the margin is tight, the operator has complete situational awareness in front of them, and the call to lift or hold is made on information, not instinct.

  • Self-Assembly Capability

The MLC100-1 and 12000-1 can be fully assembled without an outside assist crane. On sites where bringing in a support machine is impractical or adds cost to the programme, that self-sufficiency is not a convenience. It is the difference between the job proceeding and not.

  • Manitowoc Crane Care Support

Every Manitowoc crawler purchased through TRT is backed by Manitowoc Crane Care, covering parts, service, training, and 24/7 emergency response across New Zealand and Australia. When a crane goes down on a major project, the cost is measured in programme delay, not just repair time.

Specifications

The Numbers That Carry

The VPC system on the MLC300 and MLC650 reduces ground preparation requirements to as little as one-tenth of a conventional crawler at the same capacity class.

Main boom lengths across the range run to 103m. Rated capacities extend to 750 tonnes with MAX-ER on the 18000. That is a range built to cover every major crawler application.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What Manitowoc crawler models are available through TRT?

TRT offers eight Manitowoc crawler models across New Zealand and Australia, covering 80 to 750 tonnes. The most commonly specified options are the MLC100-1, 11000-1, 12000-1, 14000, MLC300, MLC650, and 18000, alongside the 80-tonne unit.

The full Manitowoc global range runs to 16 models and up to 2,300 tonnes.

If you have a capacity or configuration requirement outside the standard range, contact the TRT crane team directly.

  • Can the MLC100-1 be assembled without a support crane on site?

Yes. The MLC100-1 uses a self-assembly system that allows full setup without an outside assist crane.

Button-style wire rope terminations reduce connection steps, and the boom butt remains in the crane during transport to simplify reassembly on arrival. The 12000-1 also includes a self-erecting counterweight.

For operators running tight mobilisation schedules, removing the support crane dependency is a significant programme and cost advantage.

  • What does the VPC system do, and does it affect the lift chart?

The Variable Position Counterweight system, fitted on the MLC300 and MLC650, automatically moves the counterweight to match the load being lifted at any given radius and boom angle.

It eliminates the need for carbody counterweight, which reduces the crane's footprint and the ground bearing preparation required before lifting begins. Lift capacity is maintained at or above what a conventional counterweight configuration delivers at the same radius.

For sites where ground preparation is a constraint or load-bearing capacity is limited, VPC changes what becomes viable.

  • What service and parts support is available after purchase?

Every Manitowoc crawler purchased through TRT is backed by Manitowoc Crane Care, covering parts, service, training, and 24/7 emergency support across New Zealand and Australia.

TRT holds Manitowoc parts stock locally and has access to the global Manitowoc parts network. Service teams operate from TRT's principal workshops and travel to site when needed.

The commitment to Crane Care continues beyond the warranty period, for the life of the asset.

  • How does TRT support Manitowoc crawlers across New Zealand and Australia?

TRT has been the authorised Manitowoc distributor across New Zealand and Australia since 1972. Service is delivered through principal workshops in both countries, with mobile teams that travel to site when needed.

Emergency breakdown support is available around the clock.

For major crane owners and fleet operators, TRT can build a scheduled maintenance programme tailored to the crane's utilisation and project calendar.

  • What are the transport requirements for moving a Manitowoc crawler between sites?

Transport requirements vary by model. The MLC100-1 features retractable crawlers that reduce the overall transport width, making site-to-site moves more straightforward.

Larger models, including the MLC650, are engineered with optimised component weights and dimensions to reduce transport cost and logistical complexity between major jobs. Manitowoc designs these cranes to be moved across jobs, not just installed on one.

TRT's crane team can provide transport configuration details for any specific model on request.
