Overview

Wide Load. Narrow Track.

The Deck Widener extends from 2.5m to 3.5m to match the load, while the axle group stays at 2.5m throughout. Narrow bridges, tight roundabouts, and restricted forestry roads stay on the route. Available in tri axle and quad axle configurations, with rear steer options to add manoeuvrability where access is tightest.

Features

Built for the long haul.

Getting a wide load from A to B is one challenge. Getting it there through narrow bridges, tight road networks, and constrained access routes is another. The TRT Deck Widener range is built for operators who need the deck width without giving up road access to get there.

  • Deck-Only Widening

The deck extends from 2.5m to 3.5m to carry the load width. The axle group stays at 2.5m throughout the journey. Every bridge rated for a standard 2.5m trailer, every roundabout, every narrow forestry road stays on the route. The load goes wide. The rig doesn't.

  • Low Deck Height

The 3x4 Deck Widener runs at 700mm deck height, the lowest in TRT's rows-of-4 range. Loads that sit at legal height at that deck height but would be over-height on a standard low loader travel without a permit. That difference changes what the trailer can move and where it can go.

  • Double-Acting Hydraulic Suspension

TRT's double acting hydraulic suspension provides increased stability when the deck is extended and loaded. Any axle can be lifted independently with no mechanical pinning required. Servicing and tyre changes happen without jacks, keeping the trailer ready to work and the downtime short.

  • Rear Steer Axles

Rear steer axles reduce tyre wear, chassis stress, and fuel burn when navigating roundabouts, tight yards, and site access roads. The 3x4 is available with a single rear steer axle. The 4x4 runs two rear steer axles, which can be locked straight for steep or rough off-highway conditions.

  • Grade 80 High Tensile Construction

The chassis is fabricated from grade 80 high tensile steel with axles set through the chassis rails for maximum strength and the lowest possible deck height. AR 450 wear plate decking handles repeated loading from tracked plant and machinery. A deep coaming rail runs the length of the trailer to reduce deflection when the deck is extended and fully loaded.

  • Single or Double Fold Ramps

Single and double fold ramp options are available across the range. Double fold ramps reduce the loading angle, making it easier to drive tracked plant and machinery onto the deck without bridging or binding. All ramps are full hydraulic with AR 450 wear plate facing and a float valve that protects the hydraulic cylinders on uneven ground.

  • Dolly Compatibility

Both configurations work with TRT's 2x4 and 2x8 dolly options to increase payload beyond the trailer's base ATM. A dolly extends the axle group and distributes load across a greater number of axles, increasing the legal payload for the combination. The same trailer does more jobs without needing a larger rig.

Specifications

Capacity Across the Range

The 3x4 Deck Widener runs at 700mm deck height with a 40t ATM, the lowest deck height in TRT's rows-of-4 range. The 4x4 with 2 Rear Steer rates at 55t ATM, with a 970mm deck height on 19.5 tyres. Both widen from 2.5m to 3.5m with the axle group fixed at 2.5m throughout. Dolly options are available on both configurations to increase payload.

Not sure which configuration suits your payload?

The right configuration depends on your payload, your road access, and how tight the sites are. The TRT trailer team works through those variables with you before you commit. Get in touch across New Zealand and Australia and we'll help you spec the right trailer for your operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between a full widener and a deck widener?

A deck widener extends only the deck to carry a wide load, while the axle group stays fixed at 2.5m throughout the journey. A full widener moves the entire axle group outward with the deck, which gives greater lateral stability but requires wider road access to travel.

  • Can the deck widener carry a load at the full 3.5m deck width on public roads?

Yes, the 2.5m wheel track stays within standard road width limits even when the deck is fully extended to 3.5m. Depending on load dimensions and mass, a permit may still be required, so check with your transport regulator in New Zealand or Australia.

  • What payload can the quad axle deck widener carry?

The 4x4 Deck Widener with 2 Rear Steer has a confirmed ATM rating of 55 tonnes, with a tare weight of approximately 14,300kg. Adding a TRT 2x4 or 2x8 dolly to the combination increases payload further, contact TRT for specific calculations.

  • Do the rear steer axles lock straight for off-highway use?

Yes, on the 4x4 with 2 Rear Steer, two solenoids lock the BPW rear axles in the straight-ahead position for steep or rough off-highway conditions. The 3x4 single rear steer axle is the same BPW self-centering design with the same locking capability.

  • Can I add a dolly to increase payload?

Yes, both the 3x4 and 4x4 configurations are compatible with TRT's 2x4 and 2x8 dolly range. A dolly extends the axle group and distributes load across more axles, increasing the legal payload for the combination.

  • What support does TRT offer after purchasing a deck widener?

TRT provides service, parts supply, and maintenance support through branches across New Zealand and Australia for the life of the trailer. Spec sheets and technical drawings are available for download, and the trailer team remains available for configuration advice and part sourcing throughout.
