No Longer In Production.
This model is no longer in production. The current model is the TRT TIDD PC28-3G
Proven Performance. Every Site.
The proven pick and carry crane, backed by three decades of field data.
The PC28-2 has earned its place on construction sites, mine sites, and industrial facilities across New Zealand and Australia. Slew Safe comes standard on every unit. The 2.3 tonne counterweight roads with the crane, so there is no support vehicle and no split scheduling between jobs. At 2.5 metres wide with 44 degrees of articulation and a 75% stationary lift chart with the holding brake applied, it delivers serious capacity in the sites where other cranes cannot operate.
Every feature on the PC28-2 is there to solve a real problem on a real job site. Getting through a tight access point. Holding a safe lift on a slope. Moving to the next job without waiting on a second vehicle.
The machine was engineered to make those things straightforward, and it has been doing exactly that for operators across New Zealand and Australia for years.
-
Slew Safe System
Slew Safe is a critical safety system included as standard on every PC28-2. It monitors load conditions in real time and stops the operator from slewing into an unsafe zone before a situation becomes a rollover.
On pick and carry work, where load dynamics change with every move, that protection matters on every single lift. -
Roadable Counterweight
The 2.3 tonne counterweight roads with the crane as standard. No support vehicle, no second driver, no coordination between two transport schedules.
For operators running multiple lifts across different locations in a day, that is direct time and cost returned to every job. -
Site Access and Manoeuvrability
At 2.5 metres wide with a 44 degree articulation angle, the PC28-2 gets into sites that rule out larger configurations.
Factories with tight internal clearances, mine site corridors, urban construction zones, and indoor industrial lifts all stay in scope. The machine that fits more sites earns more days. -
ROPS Cabin and Operator Environment
The forward-mounted cabin is certified to ROPS standard and built for long shifts. Ducted air conditioning, 150kg-rated air suspension seating, 3-point safety belts, and a double-door configuration protect the operator and reduce fatigue.
The elevated seating position, updated mirror arrangement, and expansive top glass view give the operator clear situational awareness whether driving between sites or managing a lift. The hinged cabin steps open into a large dry storage area for soft slings and rigging gear. -
Mercedes Benz Drivetrain
The Mercedes Benz OM906 six-cylinder 6.4 litre turbocharged diesel delivers 205kW through an Allison World Series 3000 automatic transmission, matched to a Meritor transfer case to optimise driveline angles. Kessler high-speed planetary axles with a front axle diff lock complete the package.
This is a well-supported drivetrain across New Zealand and Australia, which keeps maintenance predictable and parts sourcing straightforward over the life of the machine.
The Numbers That Back It Up
Lifting capacity holds strong where the ground doesn't.
With a maximum lift of 28 tonnes on the lug and an average 17% capacity increase on articulated or side-slope positions, the PC28-3G performs on the jobs that push other machines to their limit. In some positions that improvement reaches over 40%.
The 75% stationary lift chart with holding brake applied is exclusive to this machine in its class, made possible by the LMI bridging switch as standard.
At 2.5 metres wide with an 18.65 metre full power boom built from Swedish high-tensile steel, it gets into the sites others can't reach and lifts what the job demands.
The 4.6 tonne single line pull winch is the largest capacity option available in this class.
Safety at the Centre of Everything
The PC28-2 carries the full TIDD safety package as standard. Slew Safe, the LMI bridging switch, ROPS certification, and ABS braking are not options or upgrades. They are how this crane leaves the factory.
-
Slew Safe Standard
Included on every PC28-2 as standard. It monitors load conditions in real time and prevents the operator from slewing into an unsafe zone, reducing rollover risk on every lift regardless of site conditions.
-
75% Lift Chart with Holding Brake
The LMI bridging switch enables the PC28-2 to operate under EN13000 standards, making it the only pick and carry crane in its class able to hold a 75% stationary lift chart with the holding brake applied.
-
ROPS-Certified Cabin
The integrated ROPS-style safety frame, 3-point safety belts, and 150kg-rated air suspension seating protect the operator in a rollover and across a full working day on demanding sites.
-
ABS Braking
Anti-lock braking is standard across all wheels, delivering consistent and controlled stopping performance both on site and on the road between jobs.
-
Full Site Visibility
The forward-mounted elevated cabin, updated mirror arrangement, extra cameras, and expansive top glass give the operator a clear line of sight in all directions, whether driving or lifting.
-
Emergency Stop Access
Emergency stop buttons are positioned inside the cabin and on both sides of the articulation area. Remote emergency levers at the control valve bank allow manual operation of all hydraulic functions in the event of an electrical failure.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How does the PC28-2 differ from the PC28-3G?
The PC28-2 and PC28-3G share the same core platform: 28 tonne capacity, 2.5 metre width, 44 degree articulation, 75% stationary lift chart, roadable 2.3 tonne counterweight, and Slew Safe as standard.
The PC28-3G introduced a Cummins Euro 6 engine, upgraded front suspension cylinders that increase lifting capacity by an average of 17% on slopes and articulated positions, and ABS braking as standard across all wheels.
The PC28-2 runs the proven Mercedes Benz OM906 driveline and delivers the same benchmark lift performance on flat and level ground. For operators and fleet owners where the Euro 6 engine and the slope capacity improvement are not deciding factors, the PC28-2 remains a strong, well-supported machine.
-
What lift capacity does the PC28-2 deliver, and what are the lift charts?
The PC28-2 lifts 28 tonnes on the fixed lug, 27.6 tonnes on the running rope, and 25 tonnes pick and carry on the second lug. The stationary chart runs at 75% and the pick and carry chart at 66%.
Switching between the two is as straightforward as turning off the hold brake. The machine does not need to be reconfigured between a stationary lift and a moving carry.
The 6.12 to 18.64 metre full power boom is built from high-tensile steel, with sections 1 and 2 fully synchronised and providing hook compensation, and section 3 independently operated with its own hydraulic cylinder.
-
Does the PC28-2 have Slew Safe as standard?
Yes. Slew Safe is fitted as standard on every PC28-2, with no option to leave it off. It monitors load conditions in real time and prevents the operator from slewing into an unsafe zone before a rollover situation develops.
The LMI bridging switch is also standard, which enables the PC28-2 to legitimately operate under EN13000 standards and use the 75% stationary lift chart with the holding brake applied. That makes it the only pick and carry crane in its class able to do so.
For fleet owners and safety managers, those two systems working together mean protection is not reliant on conditions or the experience of a particular operator on a particular day.
-
What engine and driveline does the PC28-2 run?
The PC28-2 uses a Mercedes Benz OM906 six-cylinder, 6.4 litre, turbocharged, intercooled 205 kW diesel engine matched to an Allison World Series 3000 automatic transmission and a Meritor transfer case, which optimises driveline angles across the articulating chassis.
Axles are Kessler high-speed planetary units with a diff lock on the front axle, which gives traction when the ground is soft or uneven.
All regular servicing is accessible from one side of the crane, with safety rails standard.
-
What is the Superlift counterweight, and when would I use it?
The Superlift counterweight is an optional 1.1 tonne addition to the standard 2.3 tonne roadable counterweight. It is engaged when a lift requires more capacity than the standard configuration can provide at a given radius.
With Superlift deployed, the crane's lift chart improves at the working radius where the extra counterbalance makes the difference. For operators who regularly push close to the rated limit of the standard chart, it is a cost-effective way to extend what the machine can do without stepping up to a larger crane.
Talk to TRT about whether the Superlift option suits the type of lifts your operation typically encounters.
-
What does the cabin offer for an operator working long days?
The PC28-2 cabin is forward-mounted with an elevated seating position, giving the operator clear sightlines in all directions whether driving or lifting. The double-door configuration, ducted air conditioning, and 150 kg rated air suspension seat reduce fatigue across a full shift.
Three-point integrated safety belts and a ROPS-certified integrated safety frame are standard. Emergency stop buttons are positioned inside the cabin and on either side of the crane's articulation area. Remote emergency levers at the control valve bank allow manual operation of hydraulic functions if an electrical failure occurs.
There is also a large dry storage area accessible via the hinged cabin steps, which is a practical detail for operators carrying soft slings between jobs.
-
What service, warranty, and parts support does the PC28-2 carry?
The PC28-2 carries a 12-month component warranty and a 5-year structural warranty as standard. Because TRT is the manufacturer, warranty claims are handled directly with no third party in the process.
First service falls at 100 operating hours, with further services every 250 hours. All major servicing is carried out by authorised TIDD service agents across New Zealand and Australia, selected for their crane expertise and local support commitment.
Every component used in the build is an industry-standard construction or crane machinery part, which means straightforward sourcing and no proprietary dead ends across the life of the machine.
